*Each crostini recipe also has it’s own recipe post! Click on an image to take you to a more detailed, in-depth recipe!*

What are Crostini?

Crostini are from the Italian cuisine and are made with toasted baguette topped with various cheeses and cured meats. This traditional Italian appetizer can be prepared with just about anything and the varieties are endless! Typically, toasted baguette is first lightly brushed with olive oil and then the toppings are added.

Preparing the Baguette

Making crostini is super easy! First, slice a long, thin baguette into thin slices, about 1/3 of an inch thick. I don’t recommend cutting the baguette too thick. Place the slices of bread onto a large baking tray and using a pastry brush, brush the bread lightly with olive oil. Next, place the bread underneath the broiler and let the bread toast for a few minutes until it’s golden and crispy. And that’s it! The bread is ready for topping!

5 Easy Crostini Recipes (3)

This crostini recipe with pan-fried chanterelle mushrooms, goat cheese and honey is one of my favorites! It’s perfect for the holiday season when wild chanterelle mushrooms are in season. This recipe would also work with other mushroom varieties. I love to enjoy this easy appetizer warm!

  • First, prepare the mushrooms. Use a small, soft brush to clean the mushrooms of debris. I don’t recommend soaking the mushrooms in water as they can absorb water quickly. Slice the mushrooms thinly. Next, preheat a large frying pan over high heat and add about a tablespoon of butter. Add in the sliced mushrooms and cook them over high heat for 8 to 10 minutes, until they are well-browned and caramelized. Season them lightly with salt.
  • Next, prepare the baguette. Brush the sliced bread lightly with olive oil and toast until golden brown.
  • Add the cheese! I love this appetizer with goat cheese but other varieties such as triple crème or brie will also work well.
  • Add a heaping amount of mushrooms on top and drizzle the crostini with honey. I also like to add a bit of fresh thyme.

These easy club tea sandwiches are one of my favorites! They’re super easy to make and so delicious! I make mine with sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, cheese, smoked ham and salami. If you want even more flavor, try adding prosciutto or even bacon slices!

  • First, spread on the mayonnaise onto sliced and toasted baguette. I also like to use garlic aioli or even smoky chipotle aioli!
  • Next, layer the sandwich starting with the sliced tomato, then sliced cheese and cucumber.
  • Add the meats! Roll or fold the ham and salami and arrange it in eye-catching way on the top. I recommend using a sandwich toothpick to keep everything together!

Smoked Salmon Tea Sandwiches

You can never go wrong with this crostini classic! I absolutely love smoked salmon and this easy recipe is bound to be everyone’s favorite! I like to use cold-smoked salmon for this recipe but hot-smoked salmon will also work well! Cold-smoked salmon comes pre-sliced and layers so beautifully. For even more flavor, try adding a bit of sliced avocado or even thinly sliced shallot!

  • Prepare the baguette. Brush the sliced bread lightly with olive oil and toast until golden brown.
  • Spread on the cheese! I enjoy this salmon crostini with a variety of cheeses but my favorite is Boursin herbed cheese spread. The creamy and flavorful cheese is the perfect complement to the salmon and cucumbers! You can also use cream cheese or goat cheese.
  • Add the cucumbers. Thinly slice an English cucumber or a few small, co*cktail cucumbers and layer them onto the bread.
  • Add the smoked salmon next and fold it over the crostini to make an eye-catching presentation.
  • Add the garnishes, such as capers, fresh dill or even minced chives.

If you’ve never tried figs and prosciutto together, you’re missing out! The saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of figs or fig preserves go so well together! For these prosciutto crostini, I use creamy triple crème cheese, thinly sliced prosciutto, fig preserves and a light drizzle of balsamic glaze. The combination is mouth-watering!

  • Prepare the baguette. Brush the sliced bread lightly with olive oil and toast until golden brown.
  • Spread on the cheese! I highly recommend using my favorite Saint Andre triple creme cheese. It’s a soft and creamy brie cheese that’s very mild in flavor and super creamy and rich!
  • Add the prosciutto – I usually use about half a slice of prosciutto per crostini, splitting each layer slice down the middle lengthwise along its natural grain. Just fold the prosciutto and place it on top.
  • Add the figs/fig preserves. When figs are in season, I love this appetizer with sliced fresh figs! When they’re out of season (which is most of the year!), I use fig preserves. Add a little dollop on top, or you can spread the preserves over the cheese, before adding the prosciutto.
  • Drizzle with balsamic glaze for even more flavor!

Guacamole Steak Bites

The fanciest and most delicious steak crostini recipe with guacamole and steak sauce! You’ll love these steak bites! I make this steak appetizer with tender ribeye steak or filet mignon steak. Check out my ‘Ribeye Steak Recipe’ to learn how to make the best steak! The cooked steak is then sliced and added onto the crostini with garlicy guacamole and topped with steak sauce and optional crème fraiche.

  • Prepare the steak first. I recommend using prime steak cuts such as ribeye or filet mignon so you and your guests can enjoy this appetizer more easily. If the steak isn’t soft enough, it will be harder to enjoy. Once the steak is done, allow it to rest for 5 minutes. Using a sharp knife, cut away any fatty pieces and cut the steak into small, thin pieces that fit easily on top of the bread.
  • Prepare the baguette. While the steak is resting, it’s the perfect time to prepare the crostini. Brush the sliced bread lightly with olive oil and toast until golden brown.
  • Add the guacamole. You can make a batch of homemade guacamole or use store-bought. Both are great options!
  • Add the sliced steak.
  • Add the garnishes! I like to drizzle my favorite steak sauce over the top of each steak crostini and add a tiny dollop of crème fraiche. I love the extra creaminess from the crème but it’s completely optional!
  • Enjoy it warm! This appetizer is best served warm. If needed, keep it warm in the oven until you’re ready to enjoy!

Easy Chanterelle Crostini with Cheese

10 minutes mins prep + 10 minutes mins cook

12 servings

Quick and easy chanterelle mushroom crostini appetizer recipe, with cheese and honey.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 large, thin baguette

  • 1 lb chanterelle mushrooms

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 3 oz goat cheese or triple creme cheese

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

  • Prepare the chanterelle mushrooms first. Chanterelle mushrooms should never be submerged in water. Instead, clean them with an extra-soft bristle toothbrush. Only dip them into water if they are extremely dirty. Slice the mushrooms thinly so they fit easily onto each appetizer.

  • Next, preheat a large frying pan over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. These mushrooms will release a lot of liquid as they cook. I recommend frying them on high heat the entire time so they caramelize and brown, instead of boil. Allow the liquids to evaporate, then keep frying the mushrooms until they’re golden all over; a total of about 10 minutes. I season them with salt when they’re just about done. Keep the chanterelles warm while preparing the crostini!

  • To prepare the bread, I slice a thin baguette into 1/3-inch thick slices and place the bread single layer onto a baking sheet. Next, brush the bread very lightly with olive oil and place the bread under the broiler for a few minutes. Spread the cheese onto the toasted baguette while it’s still warm so it spreads easier!

  • To assemble this easy appetizer, pile on the chanterelle mushrooms onto each crostini. This is where slicing the mushrooms into smaller pieces really helps! Next, I love to drizzle each crostini with sweet honey and sprinkle a few fresh thyme leaves for garnish. Enjoy these appetizers warm for best results!
