Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu
Vatha Kuzhambu, My favorite dish to make for lunch. Recently I have started to use my vathakuzhambu podi for making that and it was a huge success. I have already made asundaikai vatha kuzhambu using that powder and it turned out really great.
This is a vathakuzhambu made with manathakkali vathal and I loved it so much. You can usechenarikkai vathal or any vathal as you like. Will share the different version

Ingredients for Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu Recipe
- Gingelly Oil / Sesame Oil / Nalla Ennai - 3 tbsp
- Onion - 1 medium size sliced thinly
- Tomato - 1 medium size chopped
- Garlic - 6 fat cloves peeled
- Curry Leaves a fat sprig
- Dried Manathakkali Vathal / Black Night Shade - ¼ cup
- Tamarind - 1 small lemon size or 4 tbsp of tamarind pulp
- Vatha Kuzhambu Podi- 3 tbsp or to taste
- Salt to taste
- Sugar / Jaggery - 1 tsp
- Water - 3 cup
How to make Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu Recipe
- Take tamarind in a bowl, add in ½ cup of water, soak it for 5 mins. Squeeze well to remove the pulp, strain and set aside.
- Heat oil in kadai. Add in sliced onions, garlic, curry leaves and saute it for 5mins.
- Add in Tomatoes and saute for couple of mins.
- Add in dried manathakkali vathal and saute for 5 mins.
- Add in salt, sugar and vatha kuzhambu podi. Mix well for a min.
- Add in tamarind pulpand water, bring this to boil. Simmer the kadai for 15 to 20 mins till it isthick and oil separates.
- Serve with rice.

Ingredients

Aarthi, wonderful curry recipe of Manathakkali dried seeds. We get here fresh bunch and just recently I made stir fry. I will check if these seeds are available in Indian store. I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Hi arthi,
Tried this recipe with ur homemade powder and it turned out yummy .. i have tried the same recipe without the powder and it never tasted tat gud hence i was always apprehensive to cook vatha kulambu .. tried ur complete recipe and was delicious .
